The Tradition of the Church proposes to the faithful certain rhythms of praying intended to nourish continual prayer. Some are daily, such as morning and evening prayer, grace before and after meals, the Liturgy of the Hours. Sundays, centered on the Eucharist, are kept holy primarily by prayer. The cycle of the liturgical year and its great feasts are also basic rhythms of the Christian’s life of prayer.
Catechism of the Catholic Church 2698
Almighty God,
you have given us this day:
strengthen us with your power
and keep us from falling into sin,
so that whatever we say or think or do
may be in your service and for the sake of your kingdom.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
This prayer is one of the collects from Prime, which from the sixth century was said just before dawn.
The Benedictus is traditionally proclaimed each morning.
Visit this house, we pray you, Lord:
drive far away from it all the snares of the enemy.
May your holy angels stay here and guard us in peace,
and let your blessing be always upon us.
Through Christ our Lord.
The traditional closing prayer of Night Prayer, now used at Night Prayer on Sunday.
